Ribbon Cuttings

The Sussex & District Chamber is proud to celebrate your business with a ribbon cutting ceremony! This service is at no cost to Chamber Partners* who are celebrating a grand opening or milestone event. It is a unique way for the Chamber to promote your business.

What is a chamber ribbon cutting?

What occasions can we celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony?

Ribbon cuttings are typically held to commemorate the opening of a new business, building, or facility. They can also be used to celebrate the completion of a renovation or expansion project. Additionally, ribbon cuttings can be held for other special events such as anniversaries, milestones, or achievements.

Who can request a ribbon cutting?

Chamber partners may request a ribbon cutting at no cost anytime one of the occasions listed above is occurring.

Non-members may also request one free ribbon cutting. If more than one ribbon cutting is requested by a non-member, the chamber will reach out to discuss options and fees.

What are the benefits of holding a chamber ribbon cutting?

Holding a ribbon cutting can have several benefits, including creating buzz and excitement around a new business or location, generating media coverage, attracting new customers or clients, and building relationships with the local community.

What does the chamber do for my ribbon cutting?

The Sussex & District Chamber will invite the Chamber Board of Directors and Ambassadors. Your event will be promoted through our online calendar, social media pages, and newsletter. We will bring the green ribbon and official ribbon-cutting scissors, welcome attendees and introduce you at your ribbon cutting, and take photos and share them with you following the event.

Planning your Ribbon Cutting

Who will cut the ribbon and/or speak?

The owners or top executives most frequently do the honors, but each organization is different and can pick whomever they like. You may also choose to say a few words. We suggest things like thanking those who helped along the process, how you came about owning/updating/moving, and sharing any specials or upcoming events. Please limit your speech to 3 minutes.

When will you hold your event?

Ribbon cuttings should be planned at least 2 weeks in advance. The Chamber may not able to facilitate ribbon cuttings on the same day as a scheduled chamber event. Please review the chamber’s event calendar when selecting your date. Requested dates are on a first come-first serve basis and will not be held or added to the chamber calendar until the Ribbon Cutting Request Form is completed in full. Ribbon cuttings are typically held Monday-Friday between 9am and 4pm. Ribbon cuttings outside of the Chambers regular operating hours may incur a fee.

How you can maximize your event

It is suggested that you consider hosting an open house in conjunction with your ribbon cutting ceremony. – Invite your clients, neighbors, family, friends and colleagues, promote your event on social media, and to other groups you may be a part of.

Facility tours and a reception with refreshments are recommended for after the ceremony.

If you plan to offer discounts, prizes or giveaways, make sure to include this information on the Ribbon Cutting Request Form to help us better promote your event.

Refreshments, drinks, door prizes and decorations are optional and up to you.Â
